The art community campaigned passionately for the Stockholm metro art, believing that art should be accessible to everyone, not only available for the price of a ticket behind the walls of a museum. Finally, politicians and lawmakers were convinced that a public space could be functional and creative at the same time and over the years this incredible artwork has been introduced to the majority of the stations. Stockholm Metro Art is one activity you can’t miss in Stockholm. You’ll find 14 metro stations which have been uniquely painted and decorated in incredible murals which take over the whole platform, making the subway stations one giant art gallery.

Odenplan station is nothing special. It’s an older station and doesn’t have any notable art. However, if you get off the subway and walk two blocks east down Odengatan, you’ll reach the Stockholm Public Library. You can get an introduction to the artwork through the free 1-hour guided tours called Art Walks by the Stockholm metro system. You do need to buy a metro ticket but the tour is free. From June to August, there are guided Art Walks in English every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, starting at 3 pm from the SL Customer Centre, at T-Centralen Metro station (entrance from Sergels Torg).

It’s an older station and doesn’t have any notable art. However, if you get off the subway and walk two blocks east down Odengatan, you’ll reach the Stockholm Public Library. Some of Stockholm's subway stations have been built into caves, where the structure has been kept and integrated into the art – like at Kungsträdgården. The station is part of the blue line and located under the park with the same name in Stockholm's Norrmalm district. The station's entrance was originally planned to be in the park in 1971.
